“Oil Painting Right From the Start” with Keith Russell in WestPort
If you’re an absolute beginner who has never picked up a brush, this class will introduce you to the fun of painting in oils. You’ll learn about which brushes to use for various techniques, how to paint on a variety of surfaces and–this will be valuable for intermediate and advanced painters, too!–which mediums to use to make oil paint work the way you want!
Bring your own reference photo or drawing, work from my still life setup, or paint from your imagination. I’ll be painting along with you, and I’ll bring several books from my personal library with examples of various styles of oil painting, materials and techniques to inspire you.
*Class Maximum Number of Students:8
About the instructor:
Keith Russell began painting in oils in 2005, while working on his BFA in painting at the Kansas City Art Institute, which he earned in 2008. He has taught a variety of art classes for Artichokes, Creative-Coldsnow, GKCAA , and Lee’s Summit Arts—and Keith taught basic and advanced airbrush techniques at JCCC from ’96 – 2000.
Keith’s paintings have been regularly throughout the Crossroads since he graduated from KCAI. Since 2018, Keith has exhibited nationally with the “Oddities & Curiosities Expos”. He is hoping to get back “on the road” in 2021.
