Encaustic Painting with Barb Mizik in Overland Park
Explore the fascinating and ancient medium of encaustic with a contemporary viewpoint. Encaustic is melted beeswax mixed with Damar resin. You will learn how to prime your surface, fuse, and apply molten wax to create different effects. Various technqiues will be demonstrated such as how to carve into cool wax, collage, and embed small objects, how to use stencils and how to tranfer prints wo that you can try these on your masterpieces. It's a fun and easy medium to learn–perfect for anyone who loves to create–beginners as well as experienced artists.
Barb received her BFA degree in illustration and Graphic Design from the University of Arizona. In 2020, after a long, happy career working at Hallmark Cards as a hand lettering artist and illustrator, she diceided to retire early to focus on her personal art and passion for encuastic painting. She works primarily in encuastic medium, experiementing with a variety of styles, techniques, and materials: such as glass, wire, and paper. Her art is sold at art fairs, online, and by commission. Barb has taught several workshops in encaustic and other crafts at her home studio, and at Hallmark Cards.
